Authorities are confirming that they have found the biological mother of a child discovered in a Roma camp in Greece last week.

“Blonde Angel” Maria, as the girl has been named, is the daughter of a couple in Bulgaria. DNA testing has been performed, and a match has emerged.

The girl's parents are Sasha Ruseva and her husband, Atanas, Svetlozar Lazarov, an Interior Ministry official, reports.

According to the AP, the girl was born in Greece four years ago and she was given away. The parents had no means of supporting the child, as the mother was working as an olive picker.

The Roma couple taking care of Maria have been charged with fraud and abduction. Under Greek law, the abduction charge applies if the parents gave away the child, without documenting her.

The Bulgarian family are planning to seek the custody of the child, who is in temporary care.
