News and Video Bar added to Blogger

Some time ago, the search giant introduced multiple Ajax utilities to be added on the websites designed by Google's users and allow them to offer useful functions to the visitors. Two of them, the news and the video bar, are now compatible with Blogger, allowing webmasters to add the tools to the website and present videos as well as the latest news.

"The Newsreel searches Google News for your chosen keywords and displays an ever-updating list of their search results. The Video Bar does the same for Google Video and YouTube searches, and even lets you play the videos without leaving your blog! As a bonus, the Newsreel will change from a list of summaries to a scrolling ticker depending on whether it's in the sidebar or the main column, so drag 'em around and see what you like," Eric, Blogger team, mentioned in a blog post.

If you want to use the new widgets, you can add them from the Template section by selecting the Layout option. As you can see, there are numerous "Add a Page Element" buttons that allow you to customize your blog with other useful utilities designed by Google (javascripts, AdSense, text, pictures, logos and more). After you press the button, you can see the two new features right at the top of the opened pop-up window. However, you should know the two utilities are compatible only with the Layout feature of the latest version of Blogger so, if you use the classic template of the service, you're not able to implement newsreel and video bar.

If you're currently using the old style of the Blogger and you want to migrate to the latest interface, you can click on the Template button and select the Upgrade your template option.
