Blizzard has announced that it is preparing a new relocation service for guilds that will allow the owner of one to maintain the name, the level and the perks of the organization when he moves it to another faction or to another server.

Nethaera, who is the community manager at Blizzard, has said on the official forums, “Guild members who decide to relocate with their guild may initiate their own paid character transfer. Upon a successful transfer they will automatically be part of the guild when they first log into the new realm. Their guild rank and guild reputation will be intact.”

He added, “Guild leaders who do not want a change of scenery may also choose to pick a new guild name using another new service. These services are in development and we will be providing additional details at a future point in time.”

The problem with the new guild transfer service is that it puts the decision in the hands of just one man, the leader of the organization, meaning that he can act without consulting the players that are part of it and might decide to even make a move against their wishes.

It would make sense for Blizzard to also introduce a set of mechanics that check the power of the guild leader and put more power in the hands of members, those players that contribute to the well being of the organization through their actions.

Blizzard has also not offered any information on how much the guild relocation service will cost when it becomes available.

After delivering a pretty big chunk of new content for players in the Cataclysm expansion that arrived last year, Blizzard seems to be working on adding new social functionality to World of Warcraft.

A leak from Blizzard China suggests that another expansion might arrive as soon as early 2012.
