It was a misunderstanding

Blizzard is one of the biggest video game developers around, responsible for cult franchises like StarCraft, Warcraft, Diablo or the hugely successful World of Warcraft MMORPG title, which currently boasts over 11,5 million users worldwide.

It is also one of the few developers that have specialized in the PC platform, declining to bring its titles to consoles, no matter what generation was present on the market. While some may argue that StarCraft: Ghost was meant for consoles, the project never took off the ground, so that means a lot of console owners are expecting just a little bit of love from the large company.

That is why many console users became intrigued when Blizzard executive Rob Pardo revealed to the press that his company was in talks with Microsoft about the next Xbox console, on which it would bring new titles. Sadly though, it seems that it was all a misunderstanding, and Blizzard didn't talk with the large corporation about a presumed Xbox 720.

“In the Lunch with Luminaries discussion, Rob said that Microsoft occasionally bounces ideas off of us, with no specific reference to any possible future consoles,” a Blizzard representative revealed. "This should come as no surprise, as our games run on Microsoft's PC operating system. We aren't in discussions with Microsoft regarding any future consoles."

So there you have it, Xbox fans, this wasn't a leak about the next version of your beloved console, and neither was it a confirmation that Blizzard would be bringing its future titles onto the realms of consoles. While speculations and rumors about Diablo III not being exclusive to the PC still exist, nothing is for sure. Until we hear a concrete announcement about the plans of the two companies though, the rumor mill will stop spinning for now.
