The development team at Blizzard is at the moment looking to hire a new senior software engineer who has experience with home consoles in order to work on a yet unannounced game project for the studio in Irvine, California.

The job listing explains the qualities that the company is looking for in the person who will get the position and suggests that the new title is using an entirely original game universe that’s not linked to any other property from the company.

It seems that the development team working on the secret project at the moment is made up of between 20 and 30 people, the same number as those currently working on Hearthstone.

The overall leader of the group is Michael Booth, who was the former chief executive officer of Turtle Rock and who is best known for his work on the original Left 4 Dead.

Blizzard has more than 10 other positions open for the team working on its new secret project and it seems that the most important developers at the moment are those who can work on multiplayer maps and on designs for weapons.

No clear information is offered on the genre of the new title, but the listings are suggesting that it is a competitive shooter experience that will focus on team work.

The senior software engineer position does not specify whether the game will be launched on just the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony or if current-gen consoles are also targeted.

Blizzard is traditionally very secretive about its future projects, especially if they involve an entirely new game universe, which means that it will probably take months before we learn more about the new title.

The studio is at the moment working on the Warlords of Draenor expansion for World of Warcraft, which will include an opportunity to go visit the Outlands and more options for all the in-game alliances.

At the same time, the company has a medium-sized team improving the core mechanics and the balance of Hearthstone, its digital card based title, in order to keep it interesting and competitive in the long term.

The big project that’s not yet available to the public is Heroes of the Storm, the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena title that will include characters taken from all the game universes that Blizzard has created over the year.

A technical alpha is currently running and in 2014, a select group of players will get into a full beta.
