The development team working on Diablo III has confirmed that the upcoming hack and slash title will have in-game chat after a community manager wrongly suggested that the function will not be available during a Questions & Answers session on Twitter.

Speaking on the official forums for Diablo III Bashiok stated, “You know how sometimes you say something that’s stupid and wrong and then people very reasonably get upset and create a lot of threads and discussions and demands with some pretty reasonable reasons for the thing you said wouldn’t happen but then it turns out that you’re stupid and wrong and the things you said are completely the opposite of what’s actually true?”

He added, “Yeah. So that happened. Public chat channels will be in Diablo III, barring any catastrophe that requires we remove them, because they’re already implemented. In fact they’ll be in an upcoming beta patch so you’ll get to see and play around with them yourselves.”

It seems that the team is working to expand the scope of the chat feature and that more details will be offered during the coming weeks.

Diablo III has seen a major shakeup at the start of 2012, with the developers announcing that they were making a number of changes to the core game mechanics, reducing the number of primary characteristics for the player character and reworking the skills and the abilities linked to them.

The changes have been introduced to the closed beta stage of Diablo III and now those involved are offering feedback to the developers at Blizzard.

One of the main designers working on the game also left the project, which might mean that more changes could be introduced to the game before launch date.

The community initially expected to see Diablo III arrive during spring, but now it is not clear whether the game will launch during 2012.
