As speculated on Friday, the reason for which Blink-182 took to the stage at the 2009 Grammys was, other than presenting an award, to officially announce that the band was up and running again. Moreover, as Rolling Stone informs, the Blink-ers also unveiled news about a new album in the making, so fans might as well get ready from now for one of the hottest summers ever, it is being said.

“Isn’t it great to see the Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder back together again,” Mark Hoppus joked as he was joined by his fellow band members to present the award for Best Rock Album to Coldplay. “We used to play music together, and we decided to play music together once again,” Travis Barker added.

“Blink-182 is back.” he further said. And, even if this came after rumor about a possible reunion had already made it out in the media, Blink-182 also issued a post-Grammy statement just to set the record straight that this time it was for good.

“Hi. We’re blink-182. This past week there’ve been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We’re back. We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy. Summer 2009. Thanks and get ready…” the statement read.

On Friday, speculation first started to build up that the band was about to reunite for a new material, as Blink-182 was included as a group among the presenters at this year’s Grammys. While this was definitely not the first time that such a rumor emerged, it was a first when the three band members would share the same stage in over four years, so fans somehow knew that a surprise of this kind was in store for them.

Whether work on a new Blink-182 album will interfere with each band member’s individual project is not yet certain. However, since a deadline of sorts is set for the summer of 2009, when a new studio album will presumably (and hopefully) come out, this can only mean that the three will have to put whatever they have going on separately on hold, several media outlets are pointing out.

Just a few weeks ago, Mark Hoppus was talking to MTV News and was extremely thrilled about a solo album coming along just nicely. “Since late August of last year, I’ve been in the studio every week writing songs with the intention of putting out a record of my own. As of this week, I’ve got about 10 songs in various stages of completion and another 10 ideas that I still want to work on.” Hoppus stated at the time.
