Gears of War 3 is already being hailed as the best entry in the trilogy and fans are already asking about the future plans of the Epic Games studio that worked on it while its leader talked about how the constraints of the team development make the best out of his creativity.

Speaking to Develop, Cliff Bleszinki, who is the creator of the Gears of War series, stated, “As a creative you will always want an infinite amount and it’s your job as a creative to push for that too much. If I went off tomorrow and some investors came along and gave me a billion dollars to make my dream game I’d be terrified because I need that system of checks and balances. I think as a creative you need to be edited.”

The developer says that in many ways the so called rockstar designers are like authors and directors who are given too much freedom in creative terms and end up creating less than exciting products.

He added, “They go and make this one movie that they want that’s three and a half hours and you end up thinking: ‘really dude? I liked your old one that was two hours long’. Half of the time when you see the director’s cut of a movie, you’re like ‘actually I can see why they cut all that out'.”

The fact that business people and other developers share their ideas and their concerns about a project means that a game can have a good balance between the vision of one man and the teamwork of those around him.

Still Bleszinki, who is one of the best known game developers and lives a pretty flashy lifestyle, has said that creators need to brand themselves, create a clear personality and always claim responsibility for their work.
