Arc System Works just announced that it would expand one of its recent games to another platform. Fans of BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, which came out on the arcades in November 2008 and in June 2009 on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, will get to see the game on the PlayStation Portable. This version has been announced for a February 25 release in Japan for 5,040 yen. Details regarding a US release have not been issued by the company.

The port will stay true to the original and it will bring all of its features. A multiplayer for up to four players, the full suite of 12 characters that will include the Unlimited forms they showed off on the Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as all the others are all included. But the PSP will also have the edge on the original, in the form of a new game mode.

Legion will allow players to move their characters on a strategic map and then engage in a one-on-one combat to conquer the territory. Back in September, the company also announced BlazBlue: Continuum Shift that's supposed to be something between an update and a sequel to the original fighter.

Calamity Trigger is a 2D fighter where players face their opponents in one-on-one rounds, called “rebels,” and a match can be composed of up to five “rebels.” Each character has a fast, medium and heavy attack, as well as an individual, unique “Drive attack.” Combos can be performed, which implies a series of uninterrupted hits.

Each attack in a combo will do slightly less damage, so as to allow one's opponent to recover from the flurry of blows. As players take and receive damage, a heat gauge will fill up that will allow an even more powerful attack. BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger was met with positive reviews in Japan and it debuted on the top ten of sales charts with both the PS3 version and the Xbox 360 one.
