Blake Lively, the bubbly and sophisticated blonde actress whom fans know from “Gossip Girl” and, as of late, the Channel ads, has ditched the blonde in favor of a more intense color: she’s now a fiery redhead.

The drastic change in hair color took the glossies and fans by surprise, especially since they probably never imagined seeing Blake as anything else than a blonde.

There is also the possibility that the new ‘do be for a movie part, PopEater speculates. Even so, she’s totally working it.

Blake debuted her new, more intense hair color at the Time 100 Gala in New York City. For maximum effect, she matched it with a sea green princess gown.

“Lively channels the Disney character Ariel of ‘The Little Mermaid’ with her luxurious waves and sea green Zuhair Murad evening gown,” PopEater says of the 23-year-old actress.

“Healthy, glowing skin, soft blush, lush lashes and pink lipstick add the finishing touches to the ‘Gossip Girl’s’ statement-making look,” the e-zine adds.

It could be that Blake’s new hair is for a movie role, as noted above: PopEater says she’s been offered the part of Glinda in “Oz, the Great and Powerful,” also starring James Franco.

Blake may also have opted for a change in a bid to show that she’s not just a “Mall beauty” and that she’s sophisticated enough to be a Chanel girl, and thus silence critics.

As we also noted some time ago, buzz online had it that the people at Chanel were not happy with Karl Lagerfeld naming her the face of the line of Mademoiselle bags.

Admittedly, they believed she lacked that certain je ne sais quoi needed to be a Chanel spokesperson.

“They said that the star was considered ‘off-brand’ by some U.S. employees, which the paper translated as ‘the fashion industry’s clinical way of saying that Lively’s contemporary American beauty does not dovetail with Chanel USA’s efforts to sell its fashions as the height of European sophistication’,” the Mail wrote at the time.
