Even though it was supposed to ship a month ago, fate intervened

The Cinema Camera is fairly unusual in looks, something that Blackmagic Design is banking on when shipping it.

Unfortunately, the company will have to wait quite a while before it gets the chance to see if its hopes are rewarded.

A problem involving blemishes on the camera sensor prevented the product from shipping when it should have, a month ago.

Pre-order shipments have been frozen until the cameras are re-manufactured with flawless components.

Contaminated packing materials are what the flaws in the glass were traced to. You can find the whole explanation for the delay on the Blackmagic forums.

“It is worth noting here what this glass does. Each sensor has a glass cover to keep contamination off the surface of the sensor itself, which is essentially a large semiconductor. If the surface ever got dirty, it would be impossible to clean, however the glass is easy to clean. All sensors have this glass cover. It is a high quality glass with optical coatings, similar to lens glass,” said CEO Grant Petty.
