The developer behind Blacklight: Retribution, Spec Ops: Rangers, Saw and Daylight, Zombie Studios has just announced it will close after 20 years in the gaming business.

In an emotional letter to fans, Zombie Studios owners say they are retiring and wish to thank you to all those who supported them all these years.

A special thank you goes to Zombie Studios past and present employees, as their “dedication and passion to gaming is what Zombie was all about.”

Now, for those who are wondering what will happen with Blacklight: Retribution management and Zombie Studios’ other assets, here are some details provided by developers.

It looks like there’s a new Builder Box studio that has recently acquired some of Zombie Studios’ work, including all the rights to Blacklight: Retribution.

All Blacklight: Retribution rights have been acquired by a new studio

But that’s not the only good news, as the new studio comprises past Zombie employees who worked on Blacklight: Retribution, so they know everything about the game.

In fact, Builder Box confirmed that they had acquired the rights to Blacklight: Retribution last week on the PlayStation official forums. So those who wonder what’s with the new Builder Box studio, here is a short excerpt from their statement:

“In a nutshell we are the former Director of Production and the former Technical Director of Zombie Studios, along with the awesome staff that created, developed, and continually work on Blacklight: Retribution.”

Basically, this means that the development and support of Blacklight: Retribution will not be hindered at all by the new changes. Most of this stuff happened on paper, so the game shouldn’t be affected at all.

So, that’s it for Zombie Studios. Luckily, most of the employees will continue to work on Blacklight: Retribution and Zombie Studios legacy will remain for posterity. Those who want to read the entire letter posted by Zombies Studio should head over to their official website.
