A new BlackBery smartphone is now available for purchase in Canada, namely the Bold 9780, which was put on sale on the airwaves of wireless carrier TELUS. Announced officially only a few weeks ago, the Bold 9780 arrives on shelves as the successor of Bold 9700, while sporting the same form factor and an almost identical appearance with the predecessor.

According to the wireless carrier, the new smartphone was designed so as to offer increased processing power, speed and functionality, as well as the new features and functionalities packed inside the BlackBerry 6 OS.

The features list of the new device includes:

Best-in-class right-now communications Push email with proprietary BlackBerry technology BlackBerry Messenger for instant communication Facebook, Twitter and You Tube apps specifically for BlackBerry Social feeds widget shows all updates and feeds at 1 place Fast loading web pages and streaming content Fluid and dynamic multi-media player Best-in-class battery life

The handset was made available for purchase via TELUS with a price tag of $99.99 upon the signing of a three-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier.

In case users would not want to commit to such a long contract, they can get the handset for $399.99 on a two-year term, or for $449.99 on a one-year contract. If purchase free of contract, the Bold 9780 costs $499.99.

The specifications list of the new device includes 512 MB of Flash memory, a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, or a 5-megapixel photo snapper.

The new mobile phone also comes with 3G connectivity on board, as well as with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, along with Wi-Fi calling - UMA functionality and built-in GPS receiver.

And there is also the new BlackBerry 6 OS included into the equation, with the new WebKit-based browser, universal search capabilities, a redesigned UI, and many other novelties.
