A new application is now available for download for BlackBerry handsets coming from the Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion, namely BlackBerry Travel v1.1. The new mobile software was released in the BlackBerry App World storefront, and follows the release of the final version of the BlackBerry Travel (1.0) in mid-February in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Spain.

The application has been upgraded with localized versions availability in a number of five languages, which is accessible to users in no less than 70 countries.

Since its initial release, the mobile application has seen a number of over 1 million downloads, RIM announced, adding that they also expanded the list of partners they are working with for the app and service.

“We’ve also made great progress in working with our industry partners and have signed up 8 partners to our BlackBerry Travel ecosystem, including well-known and respected brands such as Air Canada, United/Continental, Lufthansa, Hilton, Starwood, Accor, KLM and Travelport,” the company states.

The new flavor of the mobile software comes with a series of enhancements into the mix, as well as with some new features, all meant to ensure that users receive a better experience than before.

The main improvements in the new BlackBerry Travel v1.1 would include mobile rental car booking, world clock, and support for booking cars and hotels in local currencies.

Here's what RIM has to say on these enhancements:

- Mobile Rental Car Booking: To get you where you need to go, you can now book a rental car from almost any rental car agency anywhere in the world, whenever you need transportation.

- World Clock: One of the most often-requested features, we now have a world clock that has been designed to allow you to track the time across multiple locations worldwide. This is very handy when trying to figure the best time to call family back home!

- Support for Car and Hotel Bookings in local currencies: We’ve added 20 international currencies to accommodate booking in local currencies.

The application has already been made available for download via the BlackBerry App World, although it might not appear for all users right from the start. You can find it here.
