Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion brought to the market several weeks ago its first handset to sport a sliding design, the BlackBerry Torch 9800, and rumor has it that more carriers around the world are looking forward to get the device on their airwaves.

Among these carriers, we can count O2 in the UK, which is said to plan launching the new BlackBerry smartphone on its network come October 4th.

The info on this comes from some leaked internal documents that emerged over at ibenrowe (via BBLeaks), and which supposedly confirm that the wireless services provider should launch the new phone on that day.

Unfortunately, no specific details on the price tag the new device might sport over at O2 emerged, though there are great chances that it would go free on a contract agreement.

One thing that should be noted here is that O2 won't be the only UK carrier to get the device, since Vodafone was already confirmed to plan making the move.

It's common knowledge that the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 marks a series of “firsts” for the Canadian handset maker.

Not only is it the first slider in RIM's history, but it is also the first to come with the BlackBerry 6 OS on board, as well as the first BlackBerry to pack both a QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen display.

The specifications list of the new device includes a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen that boasts a HVGA resolution, as well as a 624 MHz processor complemented by 512 MB of RAM, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus and flash.

Moreover, the handset packs a nice range of connectivity options, including HSPA 3G or Wi-Fi b/g/n capabilities, not to mention the built-in GPS receive inside it.

For the time being, the handset's landing at O2 UK is only in the rumor side, but it might not be too long before things are made official, so stay tuned for more.
