Following the appearance of leaked info on what were said to be some of the upcoming smartphones from Research In Motion, such as the next generation Curve, or the BlackBerry Dakota, some details on the successor of BlackBerry Torch reportedly emerged as well.

Apparently, the Canadian mobile phone maker learned its lesson, and the next BlakcBerry devices will be more powerful than the current ones, with the next slider, supposedly called BlackBerry Torch 2, being no exception.

With a 1.2 GHz application processor with hardware acceleration packed inside, compared to the 600MHz CPU that powers the current Torch, the upcoming mobile phone would certainly be able to offer far more performance than what BlackBerry users receive from their handsets today.

But this is not all when it comes to the new Torch 2 smartphone, and the list of specifications that emerged over at BGR shows exactly that.

Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band HSPA 14.4Mbps connectivity options should be included into the mix, as well as Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and NFC (Near Field Communications).

WiFi is not mentioned there, but it would certainly be there. What's interesting to note is that NFC seems to be a feature present with all future RIM handsets, including the mid-level BlackBerry Curve devices.

Torch 2 is also expected to come to the market with a 3.2-inch VGA (640 x 480 pixel) capacitive touchscreen display, 5-megapixel photo snapper with flash, as well as Magnetometer, Accelerometer, and Proximity sensor.

The specs list of the forthcoming device would also include 512MB of RAM, 8GB built-in memory, the BlackBerry OS 6.1, OpenGL ES, and a 1300 mAh battery packed inside a mobile phone that is only 14.6mm thin.

Apparently, the next BlackBerry Torch has seen massive changes on the inside, when compared to currently available smartphone, but the outer looks might have not been altered as much, with the main change being a matte silver finish.

As for the release date for the new device, it might have been set for late third quarter of the ongoing year, with AT&T being the carrier of choice for it.
