One of the rumored smartphones that are expected to be released by Research in Motion this year, the BlackBerry Torch 2 has just been spotted at FCC (Federal Communications Commission).

Although the smartphone's name is still a mystery, RIM filed the documents regarding the handset under the codename RDM71UW.

It appears that the smartphone is listed with support for GSM 850 and GSM 1900 bands, as well as WCDMA II and V bands, which points to a possible release via major carrier AT&T.

Along with BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Monza, the Torch 2 is one of the seven smartphones that were confirmed several days ago by RIM's officials, who stated that these devices would be launched by the end of the year.

The BlackBerry Torch 2 is a considerable improvement in comparison with its BlackBerry Torch predecessor, especially when it comes to hardware.

While the original Torch is equipped with a single core processor clocked at 624 MHz, the sequel is powered by a 1.2 GHz CPU.

Furthermore, BlackBerry Torch 2 packs 8GB of internal memory, 512 MB of RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The slider comes with HSDPA and HSUPA support and offers users data transfer speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps download and up to 5.76 Mbps upload.

Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, GPS with A-GPS support, Push Email, as well as the complete BlackBerry messaging solution.

It appears that the Torch 2 comes with the same display as the original Torch, a 3.2- inch capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 640 pixels resolution.

A QWERTY keyboard, optical trackpad, proximity sensor for auto turn-off, document viewer, as well as music and media player, are listed among the phone's features, as well.
