Today, Research In Motion has made available for download a new version of its BlackBerry Tablet OS, none other than the long expected BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0.

The leading mobile phone maker notes that many of the features and enhancements included in the new platform release arrive as result of user feedback.

At the same time, there are new features that are certain to get the owners of PlayBook devices excited, the smartphone designer notes. Among them, we can count built-in email, calendar and contacts, all which have been long waited to arrive in the OS.

“Unique to BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, you can now quickly manage all of your email accounts with a unified inbox, manage your schedule with new features like a People View of your day,” David J. Smith, SVP, mobile computing, Research In Motion, explains in a blog post.

Through this functionality, users will easily see who is on their agenda for the day. They will also be able to view contacts as a social hub that puts together info from social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

The Calendar in the new PlayBook OS 2.0 also comes with Social Integration features, so that users can easily access information important to them.

“Contact cards are dynamically populated with the latest real-time information from your Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts to create a consolidated view of your contacts most recent updates,” David J. Smith explains.

Moreover, the platform arrives with new functionality related to BlackBerry Bridge, such as the ability to fully control the tablet, just as mentioned before.

Another important BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 feature is Open On, through which users can open documents, photos and links from the BlackBerry smartphone straight on the tablet PC, all with a single click.

“I often use Open On to review documents (PowerPoint, Word, and PDF) that people send me on my BlackBerry smartphone. It’s a great way to combine the convenience of my BlackBerry Bold 9900 and the big screen on my PlayBook tablet,” Smith continues.
