BlackBerry Oslo might be a Passport for China

BlackBerry Oslo, an unannounced smartphone from the Canadian device maker, leaked in an officially looking press render back in April. Since then, the device seemed to have disappeared into thin air, only to reaper in a bunch of live images this week.

The folks at N4BB have posted a series of images showcasing the BlackBerry Oslo in the flesh.

As you can see, the new Oslo is pretty similar to AT&T’s Blackberry Passport. While the original Passport boasts visibly sharp edges, the AT&T variant enjoys smoother curves that give it a very unique look. This is the case with the BlackBerry Oslo as well.

The two phones aren’t similar only on the outside but on the inside as well, where their specs match almost to perfection.

Purported specs of the BlackBerry Oslo

The Canadian company’s new smartphone should arrive with a 4.5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display with 1440 x 1440 pixel resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection.

The power source of the phone is a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, coupled with Adreno 330 graphics and 3GB of RAM.

Olso might also come equipped with 32GB of internal storage and maybe a microSD card slot allowing users to expand memory capacity up to 64GB.

The phone is equipped with a 13MMP rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash, OIS (optical image stabilization) and full HD (1080p) video recording at 60fps.

It appears that Oslo will be targeted at specific markets, and according to the current report, this means the EMEA and APAC regions. So, basically, this new model might actually be the Passport version designed to go on sale in China.

In the software department, Oslo will come bundled with OS 10.3.2 (Gold Candidate version 10.3.2.2150).

As for the materials used, it appears that the handset will take advantage of a textured rubberized back, similar to what we have seen on the Z3 and Leap. But in this case, the back will be beveled not dimpled.

This is all the information we currently have on Oslo, so we can’t really tell you when you should expect to see the phone go live on the market. Also, the amount of money BlackBerry will be asking for it remains a mystery.
