Rumors about the upcoming arrival of BlackBerry Leap in India emerged earlier this week. According to sources close to the Canadian company, the smartphone was to be launched in the country on May 7.

Well, it looks like those rumors were true, as BGR India reports BlackBerry Leap has just been officially introduced in the country.

However, BlackBerry fans will have to be patient for a little while since the Leap is not yet available for purchase. According to the Canadian company, BlackBerry Leap should hit shelves sometime early next week for a price that will be announced closer to launch.

So, since next week we are left with the option to check out prices in other countries like the US, where BlackBerry Leap is available for $275 (€245) outright. This means that the Indian version of smartphone should be priced around the same amount.

The Leap is BlackBerry's most affordable smartphone launched this year and it ships with OS 10.3.1 right out of the box.

No dual-SIM support but, other than that, decent specs

Since it's meant for the mid-level market, BlackBerry Leap comes with decent specs, such as a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 Plus processor, Adreno 305 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

BlackBerry Leap sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and 294ppi (pixel per inch). It packs 16GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

The all-touch smartphone features an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back that packs autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a modest 2-megapixel camera in the front for video calls and selfies.

BlackBerry Leap's 2,800 mAh battery is non-removable and offers around 25 hours of talk time. Keep in mind that BlackBerry Leap does not offer dual-SIM support, but it comes with other connectivity options like LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0, FM Radio and GPS with AGPS.
