Mobile phone operator Alltel Wireless announced today the immediate availability of a new device for its users, the BlackBerry Curve 8530 from Canadian handset vendor Research In Motion. According to the company, the new smartphone can be purchased form all Alltel retail stores, as well as online from the carrier's website, priced at $49.99 after a $100 mail-in and the activation of a one-year contract agreement.

The new device is the latest addition to the highly-popular Curve series from RIM, and it comes to the market with ease of use and appealing features, the carrier notes. Among the main capabilities of the BlackBerry Curve 8530, we can note easy access to email, messaging (IM, SMS, MMS) or popular social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, or the highly tactile full-QWERTY keyboard that provides accurate, fast typing.

At the same time, the new phone includes Wi-Fi connectivity options, as well as support for Alltel's 3G network, so that users can access the Internet in anyway they like. Appealing multimedia features are also present on the new smartphone, including access to music, games and other mobile apps, and users will also enjoy the handset's multi-tasking capabilities, which enable them to receive email and messages or browse the Internet while speaking on the phone.

“Alltel takes pride in bringing the most advanced and versatile handsets to our customers so they can experience the world around them,” said Paul Bowersock, senior sales & operations leader for the Alltel Divesture Trust. “If you’re looking for a smartphone that has advanced capabilities for both business and personal use, the BlackBerry Curve 8530 will help you make the most of every moment.”

The specifications list of the new handset further includes a trackpad for easy navigation, dedicated multimedia keys, built-in GPS receiver, 256MB of internal flash memory, a 2-megapixel photo snapper with video recording capabilities, microSD/SDHC memory card slot with support for up to 32 GB of additional storage space, Stereo Bluetooth, HTML web browser, access to BlackBerry Maps and support for geo-tagging. Additional details on the handset can be found on the carrier's website.
