Research in Motion has just announced its new lineup of BlackBerry 7 OS smartphones, but what everyone really expects is the first QNX-based devices.

According to the latest hearsay, RIM's first QNX-based smartphone will be launched sometime in Q1 2012 and is known as BlackBerry Colt.

Courtesy to the guys over at BGR, we have learned interesting details about the future QNX-based devices that RIM plans for the next year.

It appears that BlackBerry Colt will be powered by a single core processor due to RIM's policy that guarantees its users, superior battery life over fast dual-core processors and higher resolution screens.

However, the company plans to release more dual-core QNX-based smartphones, as soon as battery tests will assure that its devices won't run out of battery in the way that current Android-powered smartphones are depleting their batteries.

Furthermore, it seems that Research in Motion is now working on a QNX BlackBerry Enterprise Server, but the BlackBerry Colt won't feature support for current BES versions.

Still, business customers will be allowed to use Microsoft ActiveSync, if they wish to take advantage of the Microsoft Exchange email on the device.

It is said that the BlackBerry Colt will be delivered with Microsoft ActiveSync support out-of-the-box.

It looks like RIM is forced to rewrite its entire BlackBerry Enterprise Server code in order for it to support the new operating system, which is not an easy task.

This seems to be the main reason that the company launched its first BlackBerry PlayBook tablet without native email.

Currently, Research in Motion hopes to release the BlackBerry Colt some time in Q1 2012, as the company's developing team is now well into the testing process of the device.

However, everything related to the upcoming BlackBerry Colt might change as we come closer to the phone's release date, including the phone's hardware configuration or software.
