AT&T customers who were expecting BlackBerry Bridge application for their PlayBook tablet will be happy to know that RIM has finally made it available via BlackBerry App World.

Launched earlier this year, AT&T's BlackBerry PlayBook was one of the few tablets that lacked the BlackBerry Bridge application.

However, starting this weekend AT&T customers will be able to download the BlackBerry Bridge application from BlackBerry App World and pair their BlackBerry PlayBook tablet with a BlackBerry smartphone to get even more features.

BlackBerry Bridge provides users with access to their email, calendar, contacts, memo pad, tasks, as well as BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) sync between the PlayBook tablet and a BlackBerry smartphone.

Basically, BlackBerry Bridge app mirrors the existing messages, contacts, calendar, memopad, tasks and BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) that appear on the BlackBerry smartphone.

This is the best way to use your BlackBerry smartphone functions on a larger screen, such as responding to an email received on the smartphone by using the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet or send a picture to a BBM contact.

In addition, the BlackBerry Bridge application allows users to browse the Internet on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet using your BlackBerry smartphone’s data connection.

This feature is designed to provide users access to the Internet or the intranet site of their organization using their BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, even when they are outside of Wi-Fi coverage.

BlackBerry Bridge browser functionality may require a BlackBerry service plan that includes tethering.

In this regard, it appears that AT&T customers must pay a $20 monthly fee to share data among the two devices.

The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet can also be connected to a BlackBerry smartphone using the BlackBerry Bridge app over a secure Bluetooth connection.

Once the BlackBerry Bridge app is set up, users will notice that they have a different view on their BlackBerry PlayBook tablet home screen called BlackBerry Bridge.

Using the icons provided within this view will allow them to access messages, contacts, calendar, BBM, the BlackBerry Bridge Browser and more.
