Most of the new BlackBerry 7 smartphone are already available for purchase in Canada, but the phones are quietly taking over at various major retailers around the globe.

It appears that the BlackBerry Bold 9900 has just been spotted at a Carphone Warehouse store in the UK, though the phone does not show on the retailer's online store.

As shown in the snapshot, the Bold 9900 should be available at Carphone Warehouse for free on select plans from £31 per month for two years.

Although analysts predict that Research in Motion's (RIM) market share will continue to drop even after the launch of its first BlackBerry 7 smartphones, the company's move is still a good one if we take into consideration the fact that RIM will not come up with anything new until next year.

In this regard, the latest rumors say that the company is now working on its first QNX-based smartphone, the BlackBerry Colt, which is presumably launching in early 2012.

Until then RIM is determined to spread the BlackBerry 7 love across the globe, in an attempt to save itself from being bought by another giant.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 was initially unveiled in May, but RIM confirmed the phone's hardware and software configuration only recently.

Obviously, the phone is powered by BlackBerry 7 and is equipped with a fast 1.2 GHz single core processor.

Design-wise, the phone features the traditional BlackBerry-esque shape that includes a full portrait QWERTY keyboard with excellent ergonomics and well spaced keys.

Furthermore, the smartphone comes with a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a slightly better 480 x 640 pixels resolution and 16 million colors support.

The phone packs 8GB storage, 768 MB RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

There's also a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back that features autofocus, LED flash and 720p HD video recording capabilities.
