UK-based carrier O2 has recently kicked off its January sale which includes several popular Android and BlackBerry smartphones.

All devices included in this offering are available for free on select plans. For example, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 got a £105 discount, while the Torch 9810 got the same price cut.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 are now available for free on a £32 monthly plan, two-year term contract, which will net subscribers 600 minutes, 500 O2 minutes, unlimited texts and 500 MB of data.

The Torch 9810 is available for free as well, but requires customers to commit to a cheaper £27 monthly plan, two-year term contract, for which they will get 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500 MB of data.

O2 UK’s January sale included other free devices, such as Samsung Galaxy S II, Galaxy W, HTC Sensation XL, Sensation XE, Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S, Xperia ray, BlackBerry Curve 9360 and Curve 9380.

RIM’s high-end BlackBerry 7 smartphones, the Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 are aimed at different targets, but come with similar specs sheets.

Both smartphones are equipped with a 1.2 GHz single core processor and packs 8GB onboard memory, 768MB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

However, the Bold 9900 features a candybar design, while the Torch 9810 is the true Torch 9800 successor, thus it features a slider form factor.

The former has a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 640 x 480 pixels resolution, whereas the latter comes with a slightly larger 3.2inch capacitive touchscreen with a similar resolution.

Both Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 feature RIM”s traditional QWERTY keyboard, as well as an optical trackpad.

There’s also a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, autofocus and HD (720p) video recording. It is also worth mentioning that the Bold 9900 integrates NFC (Near Field Communications) technology.
