14 DAY TRIAL // One week after SaskTel listed the BlackBerry Bold 9790 and the Curve 9380 as “Coming Soon”, the regional carrier debuts the smartphones for as low as $130 (95 EUR) and $50 (37 EUR), respectively, with new three-year agreements.
The handsets are also available on prepaid or without contract, but customers are required to pay $379.99 (285 EUR) upfront for the Curve 9380 and $469.99 (350 EUR) for the Bold 9790.
Other contract options offered by SaskTel for the Bold 9790 include: $439.99 (330 EUR) with a one-year contract and $399.99 (300 EUR) on two-year term. The Curve 9380 is also available for $339.99 (245 EUR) with a new one-year plan or $299.99 (225 EUR) with a two-year agreement.
Even though both smartphones are powered by RIM’s latest BlackBerry 7 operating system, they are aimed at different targets. While the Curve 9380 offers a full-touch experience, Bold 9780’s sequel offers both worlds and comes with a full QWERTY keyboard along with a touchscreen display.
Moreover, the BlackBerry Curve 9380 is the first all-touch smartphone in the Curve family and features a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen that supports 360 x 480 pixels resolution, as well as optical trackpad and touch-sensitive controls.
On the flipside, the Bold 9790 has a slightly smaller 2.45-inch capacitive touchscreen that boasts 480 x 360 pixels resolution. However, the phone also offers the advantages of a comfy QWERTY keyboard, allowing for faster and more accurate typing.
Hardware-wise, the Curve 9380 is equipped with an 800 MHz processor, whereas the Bold 9790 features a more powerful 1 GHz Marvel Tavor MG1 CPU.
The amount of memory is also different, as the Bold 9790 packs 8GB storage and 768 MB of RAM, while the Curve 9380 has only 512MB onboard memory and 512MB of RAM. Both smartphones come with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
