Mobile phone users in the UK will have to wait only a few weeks before the newly launched BlackBerry Bold 9790 smartphone becomes available SIM-free in the country, if the latest reports on the matter are to be believed.

MobileFun plans on making the smartphone available for its customers on January 9th, the company has just confirmed.

This means that there are only three weeks left until enthusiasts can enjoy the new handset, which will be theirs for £399.95 (including VAT), no contract required ($625 / 473 Euros).

The new device sports the latest mobile OS flavor from RIM, namely the BlackBerry 7 OS, and features the popular Bold form factor, only that it pairs the QWERTY keyboard with a touchscreen display.

“The latest offering from BlackBerry following on from the popular 9780, now with a touchscreen, BlackBerry 7 and NFC,” the retailer notes.

“Prepare to be stunned by the BlackBerry Bold 9790 smartphone. This high performance hybrid smartphone combines the accuracy of a QWERTY keyboard with the speed and responsiveness of a touchscreen.

“Elegant lines and a premium finish conceal a powerful processor that delivers a truly outstanding experience.”

For those out of the loop, we should note that the new mobile phone arrives on the market with a 1GHz application processor, complemented by 8GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot, with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The smartphone also sports a 2.45" color touchscreen display that can deliver a 640 x 480 pixels resolution, as well as a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with LED flash and video recording capabilities.

The specifications list of the new device also includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, microUSB, GPS, NFC capabilities, along with a JM-1 1230 mAh battery.

As mentioned, the mobile phone runs under the BlackBerry 7 OS and it features support for various services and applications put in place for it.
