The next major software update for BlackBerry 7 operating system has been released a couple of weeks ago. However, until recently, the availability was limited to Canada and a few other countries.

Today, RIM has quietly made BlackBerry 7.1 update available in the UK. BlackBerry fans living in the UK probably know that this important update has been launched at O2 and Three carriers a few weeks ago.

Unfortunately, other BlackBerry users have been left out until recently. The good news is that RIM has managed to make it right for all Blackberry smartphone users in the UK.

According to Tracy and Matt blog site, RIM uploaded BlackBerry 7.1 update to its servers and made it available to all BlackBerry smartphone users in the UK.

Beginning today, 7.1 OS is now available for download to all users who own one of the following smartphones: BlackBerry Bold 9900, BlackBerry Torch 9810, BlackBerry Torch 9860, BlackBerry Curve 9360, BlackBerry Curve 9380, as well as the fancy BlackBerry Porsche Design P'998.

It is also worth mentioning the update is available both OTA (over the air) and through BlackBerry Desktop Software.

Those unfamiliar with the changes added by BlackBerry 7.1 OS should know that the above-mentioned smartphones will receive NFC (Near Field Communication) capability, which allows easy and quick information sharing between two BlackBerry devices by simply tapping them.

In addition, BlackBerry 7.1 update will enable the hotspot ability, which will allow users to turn their smartphone into a mobile hotspot that can be shared by up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices.

There’s also a new Battery Saving Mode providing BlackBerry smartphone users with better autonomy through various tweaks and settings.

Last but not least, BlackBerry Curve 9360 and Curve 9380 owners will be happy to know that their devices will also get an FM radio feature. Check it out here.
