The College of Cardinals sends black smoke to signal not having decided on a pope

Black smoke can be seen coming out of the Sistine Chapel chimney once again on Wednesday, March 13, as the College of Cardinals continues deliberations on who the new pope will be.

As shown above, the smoke was first seen last night after a first session of the Conclave. According to Bay News 9, two cardinals now lead the race for Pontiff.

Cardinal Angelo Scola was appointed Archbishop of Milan in 2011 by the Emeritus pope, while Archbishop of São Paulo, Cardinal Odilo Scherer is another contender with many supporters inside the Vatican.

As I have noted before, black smoke symbolizes a non-election, while white smoke will reveal that a choice has been made, and the name of the Pontiff will be announced in short time. I will keep you informed on developments as the election process progresses.
