Black Lab Linux 4.2, a distribution that is better known after its previous name, OS/4 OpenLinux, is now available for download.

Black Lab Linux 4.2 is a distribution aimed at general desktop as well as power users, and comes with a lot of application and features.

“These are only some of the application updates that you get with Black Lab Linux 4.2, they are too numerous to go over here. Overall you get over 200 system and application updates. With Black Lab Linux 4.2 you aren't just upgrading your operating system, it’s like you are getting a brand new computer,” said the developer in the official announcement.

This is the first version of the distribution that is not available for free. It's now sold at various prices, but the developers also said that the free version would be made available on January 27. Highlights of Black Lab Linux 4.2:

• A new updated kernel has been added and it helps eliminate bugs and bring driver support and improved hardware support; • A new X.org stack has been implemented, which is the engine which drives the GUI interface and features; • The UI has been updated due to user demand. The OS now gets out of the way of whatever task you are trying to accomplish; • XFCE 4.11, this highly innovative and light user interface that features low memory consumption, has been added • LibreOffice 4.1.4 has been added. This means that users will benefit from compatibility with all Microsoft Office formats, including the newer XML-based formats, as well as other legacy document formats; • Audacious 3.4 has been implemented for listening to streaming music; • Audacity 3, an application used for audio production, has been added.
