Indonesian carrier Bakrie Telecom has recently announced that it has signed an agreement with Bitstream, to deliver its Esia phones with the BOLT browser preinstalled.

Bitstream’s mobile browser is one of the most fully-featured Web browsers and it was designed to work on all Java compatible mobile phones.

However, BOLT is mostly meant for mid- and entry level handsets, as the application provides an efficient way to browse full PC-style web pages, rather than offering a mini version of the Internet.

“This agreement is another phenomenal step for Bakrie Telecom to expand the public’s access to the Internet,” said Erik Meijer, PT Bakrie Telecom deputy president director.

“For the first time, Internet access can be done not only through smartphones but can also be enjoyed by phones in the mid-low end category,” added Meijer.

Furthermore, customers who own Esia phones will be able to take advantage of the new bill payment service, which enables them to select various unlimited service packages depending on their needs: daily, weekly or monthly.

Bakrie Telecom, through its product Esia, not only consistently proves its efforts to expand access for the public to telecommunications services, but also opens access for the public to the Internet and knowledge,” continued Meijer.

“This disruptive innovation further strengthens our position as an operator that always follows the growth of new technology and is in line with the interests of our customers,” concluded Meijer.

Bitstream stated that it would be showcasing its mobile browsing technologies, including the BOLT mobile browser and the BOLT SDK at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2011 global conference and exposition held in Barcelona from February 14 to 17.

Starting on February 14, we will be there to keep you up to date with live reports on the latest product launches and presentations.
