Jailbreak tweak considered a must-have by the iOS community

A Cydia app called biteSMS that delivers features like Scheduled Messages, Auto-Forward, Auto-Retry, Passcode Lock, Delivery Reports, Contact Pics, and Signatures, has received an uber update that may just push it to the top spot of this year’s jailbreak tweaks.

Simply put, biteSMS is “a complete souped-up replacement to the built-in Messages application on iPhone devices,” according to the developers.

It's completely free to download and use, there's no in-app purchase to make for the 'full experience', and you can opt for a paid version to remove the ads (which, by the way, only kick in after 14 days of use).

The changelog for biteSMS version 6 says the app is now fully compatible with iOS 5, and that it works on iPhone and iPod devices. It’s also fully integrated with all iOS 5 features including iMessage and Notification Center.

What else? Avid fans will be glad to see a cool redesign of two flagship features - Quick Compose and Quick Reply. There’s a new passcode lock feature inside Quick Reply, as well as a new ability to use the native Messages icon instead of the biteSMS one.

Since biteSMS 6.0 was released, developers already issued an incremental 6.1 update to fix a number of unspecified bugs. Hopefully all the errors have been dealt with.

iOS 4 users should note that by downloading biteSMS from Cydia they will be installing Release 5.5 of the application, which means they won't get any new features.

The same goes for iOS 3 users, who will be handed an even older version of the jailbreak tweak (Release 4.8) and they won’t be getting any of the new additions either. In other words, you need iOS 5 to benefit from these new enhancements.

biteSMS is obtainable from the BigBoss Cydia repository. Users don’t need any custom repositories to make the download.
