An unlikely combination, until now

Should we ask you to think back of a time when BitTorrent and the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) worked together or just got along, most of you would probably have a hard time coming up with an example.

BitTorrent has been for a long time MPAA's worst nightmare as it provides the best technological solution to dodge the restrictions imposed by copyright laws. That's why on more than one occasion, BitTorrent sites were shut down by the MPAA and forced to pay huge fines to compensate the authors and music labels whose intellectual property has been stolen.

This time however, BitTorrent and the MPAA found a way to work together and agreed to stand side-by-side trying to put an end to online piracy.

"BitTorrent Inc. discourages the use of its technology for distributing films without a license to do so. As such, we are pleased to work with the film industry to remove unauthorized content from BitTorrent.com's search engine", said BitTorrent founder and CEO Bram Cohen.
