The developers of the upcoming Bioshock Infinite, the first person shooter from Irrational Games, are looking for a way to encourage the player use a wide array of powers and weapons as they tackle the challenges that the new game will throw their way.

Shaun Robertson, who is the leading artists working on Bioshock Infinite, has talked to Eurogamer as part of an interview about how the team is working hard to make all the tools available to the players attractive.

He said, “You look at BioShock, small corridors, small groups of enemies, there are not a lot of problems that electro bolt and shotgun couldn't solve in that situation.”

He added, “We want to provide a wider variety of tools and a reason to use those tools in BioShock Infinite. There's a saying that if you have a hammer then every problem looks like a nail. We want to provide you with a hammer and a saw and a measuring tape and a pencil, things that will let you be more creative with how you solve those problems.”

Bioshock Infinite will take place on the flying city of Columbia, initially built as a showcase of American science and engineering capabilities but since then disappeared after showing its militaristic side.

The main character is a disgraced Pinkerton detective who gets on Columbia in order to look for and save a girl called Elizabeth, which seems to have extensive special abilities.

Irrational Games has long worked on Bioshock Infinite but has revealed little detail on the project but now, after showing an initial trailer and a ten minute gameplay sequence, the developers are ready to talk about the way the new game will be not only an evolution but a revolution when compared to the two Bioshock titles that are set in the city of Rapture.
