2K Games has announced the first set of single player downloadable content for BioShock 2 entitled Protector Trials. The new missions will see players filling in the shoes of the Big Daddy as he defends his Little Sister from the wretched Splicers who intend to steal the ADAM she has gathered from the corpses around Rapture.

Protector Trials contains a series of challenges involving keeping the Little Sister alive that are meant to expand on the much vaunted combat from BioShock 2. The downloadable package will include six new maps that are based on locations already known from BioShock 2, new unlockable items and seven fresh Achievements for Xbox 360 or Trophies for the PlayStation 3. The challenge maps will have three difficulty levels to chose from, catering to newcomers and veterans alike.

The DLC will be available from the 3rd of August 2010 and will be priced at 5 dollars for the PlayStation 3 and 400 Microsoft Points for the Xbox 360 and Games for Windows. Protector Trials is just the first of a series of single player mission packs that 2K Games is planning for the coming months. “This is just the beginning. More single-player content is on the way that will deliver more of the intense action and story-driven gameplay that fans have been craving,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K.

This is the third DLC released for BioShock 2, as two other multiplayer map packs, Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack and Rapture Metro Pack, are already available for purchase. The former is priced at 5 dollars or 400 Microsoft Points, while the latter is a bit more expensive because it also contains a new game mode for the multiplayer component of the title, weighing in at 10 dollars or 800 Microsoft Points.
