Star Wars: The Old Republic, from developer BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts, is the biggest MMO launch of the year and one of the leading developers on the game says that playing it actually makes it hard to enjoy other titles in the same genre.

Speaking to The Gaming Liberty Ray Muzyka, who is one of the co-founders on BioWare and lead the development of The Old Republic, stated, “People seem to find it hard to go back to other MMOs once they play The Old Republic; because there’s a real sense of purpose to everything. We have real choice for the game. But because there’s personal choice, there is always personal consequences – there’s no going back you know? You can’t simply load up a previous save game and see ‘what if’.”

He added, “That’s really exciting from a moral perspective, because it’s personally impactful. We’ve found a way to integrate group combat, with group exploration, group stories and explorations – yet, there’s still a great sense of a personal story. People couldn’t imagine how you could pull that off in the MMO space – and we did that.”

Ever since the game was initially announced BioWare has focused on how it will bring its trademark narratives and decisions to the MMO space, saying to long term fans that the game will allow them to play the equivalent of five Knights of the Old Republic titles at the same time.

BioWare has also pointed out that the game offers more encounters and monsters on one of its 17 planets that the entire Dragon Age: Origins release and talked about how the fully voiced NPCs bring a new level of immersion for gamers.

Gamers all over the world will be able to play Star Wars: The Old Republic starting with December 20, as long as they are willing to pay a monthly subscription.
