Video game developer BioWare has announced that it is now working on the introduction of public beta test servers for Star Wars: The Old Republic, designed to allow players to test patches before they are implemented on all other servers.

When the test servers are first added to the game players will need to create new characters to use on them but eventually they will be able to copy their main Star Wars characters to them.

The company is also working on allowing players to transfer their main personas between the various game servers, although it is not clear when the option will be implemented.

The transfer option is needed because at the moment quite a few game servers are overcrowded and BioWare is reluctant to increase the player cap on them very quickly because they believe this will only compound the problem.

Players have been complaining of lag ever since Star Wars: The Old Republic was initially launched and it seems that in the short term the problem is here to stay.

The list of high player density server that Sony wants gamers to avoid still includes the following servers: The Harbinger – PvE, The Swiftsure –PvP and The Fatman –PvP in the United States and Bloodworthy- PvP, Frostclaw– PvE, Legions of Lettow –PvP, The Red Eclipse –PvE, Tomb of Freedom Nadd – PvP, Darth Revan’s Mask – PvP, Darth Traya –PvP and Jar’Kai Sword – PvP in Europe.

BioWare says that players should always seek low population servers to create new characters, even if that means that they will not be able to play with their friends from the real world.

Star Wars: The Old Republic might just be the last big subscription based MMO launch and players seem to have been drawn to the game mechanics and its theme, with analysts saying that as many as 1.5 million gamers were involved with the game before the official launch date.
