'Jack Bauer in space', halting armies of legendary agents gone rogue

Jack Bauer is the main figure in the American television series 24. He worked and trained in various capacities as a government agent, including US Army Delta Force, the police, the SWAT team and finally the Counter Terrorist Unit of Los Angeles. He has prevented major terrorist attacks on the United States, saving both civilians and government leaders. Remember, this is all in the TV series.

Now, BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka told MTV that his game, Mass Effect is something like "Jack Bauer in space." What kind of comparison is that? Are we to understand that the whole elite team led by Commander Shepard will run across hostile alien worlds and uncover evidence that CTU agents, including mentors and characters from whom you'd never expect anything bad, were taking bribes? And that gaining a reputation as a whistleblower is part of the story line?

For those who aren't that familiar with the game's story line, the game takes place in the year 2183, with the player assuming the role of an elite human soldier named Commander Shepard. The action revolves around an ancient alien prophecy stating that, every fifty thousand years, machines come to the galaxy to harvest all organic life. As the first human Spectre, sworn defenders of galactic peace, Shepard's mission is to halt the advancing armies of a legendary agent gone rogue.

Except from being the all to well known type of "super commander" with a leader ability and courage beyond all human limits, the guy has absolutely nothing in common with the protagonist in 24. What, is the army of legendary agents gone rogue is the resemblance? Right... Why didn't Muzyka compare Sheppard with Conan the Barbarian, if he's going to miss all the connection points? Let's just hope that May 25th doesn't bring the TV series on Microsoft's Xbox 360.
