Gamers can choose whether to trust him or not given his real nature

Developer BioWare has revealed that one of the characters that can join the gamer party in the upcoming Dragon Age: Inquisition is Cole, a spirit who is unsure about his actual nature, and the team is willing to offer players more info on his design and powers.

On the official site, Patrick Weekes, one of the developers who was involved in his creation, says that a lot of the backstory for Cole can be found in the novel Dragon Age: Asunder, written by David Gaider, but assures gamers that they will get a full picture even if they do not read it.

He states, "I loved Cole's arc in the novel. I was guessing at his true nature until the climax of the book. But I couldn't just tell that story again. The character has to grow, for one thing… and also, that arc was tied to Cole not knowing what he is. Once Seeker Lambert whips out the Litany of Adralla, that pretty much narrows Cole down to blood mage or demon, and since he wasn't using blood magic."

Cole's existence in Dragon Age: Inquisition is very complicated because, while he accepts his nature and tries to change it, others will never be able to completely trust him or allow him to act according to his own moral compass.

Allowing the new character to join the Inquisition is optional and other members of the party, including Vivienne and Sera, will have strong reactions to his presence, while The Iron Bull will try to take him under his protection.

Weekes also mentions how Cole can contribute on the battlefield, adding that, "If you want someone who can move around the battlefield undetected, sinking daggers into enemies who never see him coming, Cole is your guy. He can still make people forget him, but he's no longer the scared young man who couldn't stand against Seeker Lambert in Asunder."

His newfound confidence means that he is especially capable when it comes to facing those foes who are ready to hurt innocent people, even if others might not trust his motives.

Dragon Age: Inquisition was one of the most impressive titles that were shown at E3 2014, with a complex mix of story, interesting and tactical combat and beauty delivered by the Frostbite 3 engine.

The title will be offered to gamers on October 7 of this year and can be played on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the PC and the Xbox One from Microsoft.
