Platinum is hard to get

It has been known for some time that the PlayStation 3 version of BioShock would be the flag carrier when it comes to Trophy implementation on the platform. The feature was introduced in the botched patch 2.40 and support was announced even earlier. It basically means that the Sony gaming console is getting an equivalent to the Achievements that already exist on the Xbox 360.

Now, Sony is giving us a more in depth look at the new Trophies by showing off some of those that have already been implemented in the game. The Trophies will be ranked according to their importance. The Bronze ones are created to offer an incentive for the player to explore all the areas of expertise in the game. There are Trophies related to researching, modifications made to weapons, hacking and crafting. They will be relatively easy to get.

The Silver Trophies will be related to a thorough exploration of the game world. For example, the Historian will only be obtained by those that take the time and find all the audio logs that tell the back-story of Rapture. The Gold Trophies, on the other hand, are related to impressive gaming feats which require determination and skill above those of the usual gamer. Sony says that playing BioShock with Vita Chambers turned off will get you a Brass Balls Trophy.

And if all that is not enough for you, then get ready for a future announcement regarding the Platinum Trophies. For now, Sony only says that "Its glistening mass is reserved for those few who can stare down a Big Daddy without shivering".

The good news is that Sony seems to be very serious about making developers implement Trophies in their games. The bad news is that the Trophies appear to be taken from the Achievements list on the Xbox 360. This might provide gamers with a level of familiarity, but it may also put off some because there's no new stuff.
