Big news for the franchise

BioShock was a very successful video game, having managed to stand out from the rest of its competitors and be a true example of games as art. From its detailed surroundings and the complexity of Rapture to the philosophical aspects of its themes, BioShock offered a memorable and extensive experience.

Now, as the video game franchise is preparing to see its second title, in the form of BioShock 2, we have received some interesting news from two other projects related to the underwater first-person shooter. The first is about the movie based on the game, which, although reported to be on hold, will feature the talented Wentworth Miller, made famous by the TV series Prison Break.

The popular actor has revealed on his Twitter page that even though he doesn't have any contracts at the moment, he will be part of the BioShock movie. “Prison Break may be ending, but I've got things in the works. Hint... one word: Bioshock,” Miller revealed via Twitter. It seems that even though the movie may cost a lot of money, it will be played out by some very competent actors.

Moving on from the film, the franchise will tackle a new type of media, in the form of a book based on the first game. The product of a partnership between the owner of the rights to the franchise, Take Two, and sci-fi book publisher TOR, which has already handled the Halo books, a novel based on the underwater shooter will be launched in fall this year, promising to “take you deeper into the realms” of the story.

Set to be released in both hardcover and paperback versions, the 400-page book will be a must-have for any fan of the franchise. The author is displayed to be Ken Levine, the creator of the first BioShock, but it may just be based on his ideas, as it is a fairly normal practice for Tor.

Overall, it seems that BioShock fans will have their thirst for adventure quenched this year as the book and sequel will be arriving in close proximity to each other and the movie might begin shooting soon so a late 2010 release might be possible. Look forward to more details as they will appear.
