The new add-on won't just recycle the old city with better graphics

The next DLC for BioShock Infinite, Burial at Sea, will take players back to Rapture, the setting of BioShock 1 and 2, but many changes are going to be made to the underwater city, according to Creative Director Ken Levine.

BioShock Infinite took players to a new city, in the form of Columbia, which was in stark contrast to the location of the first two games, Rapture.

Infinite's next DLC, however, will take players back to Rapture as part of a special two-part story expansion called Burial at Sea.

For those who have gotten tired of Rapture, Irrational Games' Ken Levine has reminded them via the PS blog that many changes have been made to the original city.

"We never wanted to return to Rapture unless there was something new to say; a new story to tell that wasn’t just bringing to life the story that we already told. We found that there was a Booker and Elizabeth story to tell in Rapture that we got very excited about. A fresh new story focused on the main characters of Infinite and the only place it could be was in Rapture."

Some of these changes include the fact that Rapture will be populated with actual people, not just Splicer enemies, and its overall environment will be much more impressive for fans.

"First of all, we have the ability to populate the city — from Elizabeth to all the people going about their business. Which we couldn’t before. We could only have a few AI’s in the scene in BioShock 1," Levine added.

"We also built a much larger scale of space and we put a lot more detail in the world. For instance, in BioShock 1, every scene at the window was basically just 2D art and 2D backdrops that look like 3D. They were cycloramas basically. Whereas now the city outside is actually 3D assets."

As such, BioShock fans should certainly look forward to the launch of Burial at Sea later this year.
