Japan seems eager to green up every line of business. What we wear can definitely define who we are nowadays, when eco textiles are available on a large scale.
Japan is now one step closer to a sustainable fashion industry, since it has revealed the first renewable, bio-based polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fiber, that could be used to improve the production of worldwide-used polyester, Inhabitat informs.
This revolutionary finding belongs to a team of scientists working for Toray Industries. Their contribution plays an important in the textile industry, since traditional polyester has been linked to a high incidence of testicular atrophy and early breast development.
If their bio-based renewable polyester were to be commercialized on a large scale, it would help design a new generation of eco-friendly clothes, safer both for the environment and for the people who wear them.
