The newly launched Bing Maps v7 Module Project available on CodePlex is designed to streamline development tasks related to the Bing Maps V7 map control, and to save devs time by simplifying access to reusable code. With the Bing Maps V7 map control set up to support a modular framework, the new CodePlex project comes to offer the community a one-stop-location for sharing and collaborating on modules.

At the time of this article there are only four Bing Maps V7 Modules available: Client Side Clustering, Custom Infobox Control, GeoRSS and Simple GeoRSS, but I have no doubts that the collection of resources will only grow in time.

“This is a community site where people can share their modules for Bing maps. By having one central location for hosting these modules we make it easier for developers to find them and reduce the need to go searching through blogs for them,” revealed Ricky Brundritt, EMEA Bing Maps Technology Solution Professional.

Developers can always benefit from leveraging reusable code within their projects, he underlines.

“Creating a custom reusable module allows you to save time when making multiple applications since common blocks of code can be designed to be written so that they can be reused,” developers added.

At the same time, the Bing Maps v7 Module Project is not only about sharing and accessing modules, but also about collaborating and enhancing existing content. However, this can only be done as a community effort.

“One feature of the [Bing Maps 7.0 Control] is that it uses a modular framework, which allows you to register and load modular blocks of code as they are needed. This means that you are able to load in features only when they are essential, which results in faster loading speeds,” Brundritt said.

“Not only does this allow you to load in additional Bing Maps features and functionalities, but it also opens itself up for custom modules.”
