Bing Maps Preview, the 3D version of Microsoft's popular mapping solution, received a major update today, so devices running it should deploy this fresh version as soon as possible.

A few months ago, Microsoft rolled out Bing Maps Preview to provide adopters of its latest operating system with 3D imagery from across the world. At the same time, the original Bing Maps version that still offers 2D photos continues to be available, but everyone would clearly go for the 3D flavor that comprises stunning pictures.

An update released today tries to make Bing Maps Preview even more advanced by adding Yelp and TripAdvisor ratings and reviews for restaurants, hotels, and the other businesses that are displayed on the maps.

What's more, today's release comes with a so-called Explore 3D option that helps users easily find 3D cities, but also with inline suggestions to search faster than before and type less.

“Featuring stunning 3D world and city views, the Bing Maps Preview app puts you at the center of a smart, local experience that helps you get things done. The app is optimized for touch with easy-to-use controls,” the official app description published today in the Windows Store reads.

“Need to get there on time? Personalized traffic alerts keep an eye on the traffic for your favorite routes and alert you when there are delays via live tiles and Windows notifications. Looking for something local that you’ll love? Get user reviews and business hours, see photos, reserve a table and more. You can even view where you’re going before you get there with Streetside.”

Bing Maps Preview comes with support for all Windows 8.1 versions on the market and although it's available in the store just like the original build, it installs separately and does not replace any file on your computer. Of course, you can also deploy it on a Surface RT tablet, for example, thanks to its touch-optimized interface.

One of the things that you should really keep in mind when deploying this special version of Bing Maps is that it requires a fast Internet connection, as it has tons of pictures to download before displaying a specific location. Of course, it might be a pain in the neck to use it with a dial-up connection, so broadband is the way to go if you're curious to see the world in 3D.

In the end, today's update is clearly good news for users of the app, so download the new Bing Maps Preview version to get all these improvements on your device as well.
