Even though labeled a decision engine rather than a plain vanilla search engine, Bing, just as the now-deceased Live Search before it, and just as Google, Y, etc., is primarily designed to bridge users with websites across the Internet. And while it may appear to the vast majority of users that identifying the correct website via search engine queries and results is a natural process, fact is that it involves a consistent volume of work on behalf of web developers, webmasters and publishers. In this regard, Microsoft is now offering for download a whitepaper designed to highlight the features of Bing webmasters can take advantage of in order to increase the visibility of their websites.

“We have just released a new white paper titled, Bing: New Features Relevant to Webmasters. As you might imagine, it covers the key features of Bing from the perspective of webmasters and web publishers. It also delves into how Bing affects your past and future SEO activities. Be forewarned – it is a bit long. I hope you find it informative and useful,” revealed Rick DeJarnette, Bing Webmaster Center.

Microsoft started rolling out Bing globally on May 28, 2009. By June 3rd, Live Search was dead, and Bing had replaced it completely. Obviously a search engine is only as relevant as the volume of eyeballs that glue to it. Traditionally Microsoft's search engine has been lagging behind services offered by Google and Yahoo. With the hype surrounding the launch, Bing managed to overtake Yahoo both on the US market and worldwide.

“As an owner of a website or a publisher of content on the Web, you are no doubt interested in the big changes Microsoft has implemented with the newly released version of its search engine, dubbed Bing. There are a great number of innovative changes in how searchers access search content in the Bing index, and as a result, on your website. This white paper was written for you, the folks whose content populates the Bing index. You’ll want to know what Bing is, what changes in Bing pertain to you, and how to make the most of those changes so you get more eyeballs on your website’s content,” reads an excerpt from the whitepaper.
