Translations right from the search engine

Microsoft has connected the latest iteration of its search engine and its machine translation technology, making it easier for users to access translations between the language pairs supported by the Redmond company. In this sense, with the evolution of Bing, the software giant has introduced translation Instant Answers. The new feature, which rolled out on June 10, 2009, is designed to permit users to translate snippets of text right from the search box in Bing. In this sense, for small translations, navigating to Microsoft Translator becomes unnecessary as Bing integrates the Redmond company's machine translation technology.

“Use Bing to instantly translate queries from one language to another with our translation Instant Answer! Starting today, when you are looking for a translation of a word or phrase, go to Bing.com and kick off an instant translation, powered by Microsoft Translator. Instant translation is another way that Bing helps you complete tasks faster by presenting better organized and more relevant content,” revealed Lane Rau, from Microsoft Translator.

Rau went on to provide examples of queries that could be entered into Bing in order to obtain instant translations. In this regard, a query such as “translate I love you” returns the following result: “Translate "i love you" from English using Microsoft Translator” with these suggestions: “Spanish: te quiero; French: je t'aime; German: ich liebe dich; and Italian: ti amo.” But at the same time, searches can also contain references including “how do you say apple juice in Spanish,” Rau revealed.

With the advent of Bing, the software giant has killed both the Microsoft Translator and the Live Search translator brands. The former Microsoft Translator service has been rebranded to Bing Translator, just as so many of the properties associated with Live Search. In this sense, users will notice that the MicrosoftTranslator.com domain now offers them Bing Translator, and that there is no BinTranslator.com at this point in time.
