The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) announces that it has joined the Billion Dollar Green Challenge, which is a national endeavor that seeks to promote the development and implementation of energy-efficiency upgrades on campuses throughout the United States.

Thus far, the collaborative effort has drawn 32 other organizations, research groups and universities across the country, with Caltech being the latest addition. The Institute has now taken a commitment to work towards making its sprawling campus greener and more energy-efficient.

“We're transforming energy efficiency upgrades from perceived expenses to high-return investment opportunities,” explains the executive director of the Sustainable Endowments Institute, Mark Orlowski.

“Caltech should be commended for rising to the challenge and investing in energy efficiency improvements on campus,” adds the expert, whose organization – plus 13 other partners – is in charge of managing the Billion Dollar Green Challenge.
