Michel Ancel admitted to French magazine that he's been working on a sequel

If you try to remember the games of 2003, you will most likely remember Beyond Good & Evil - many people appreciated and loved it - yet it was not considered a critical and financial success. Still, rumors regarding a sequel (or even about a BG&E trilogy!) were heard soon after the game was released. But it has been quite a while since we heard something new regarding a Beyond Good & Evil sequel and things had to change.

The first clue that made us believe something is moving in the right direction was last week's announcement that the original game is now available on Steam. Pretty interesting, right? Well... you'll see that it gets even more interesting, since French magazine Jeux vid?o had a chat with Michel Ancel, the man behind the original Beyond Good & Evil (and creator of Rayman, by the way!), who admitted that he's been working on the sequel for almost one year now, but he is not 100 percent sure the game will hit the market:

"We're working on Beyond Good & Evil 2. We have been in preproduction for one year, and we carry out a research task at the moment. But for now, the project is still in early stages and Ubisoft still hasn't agreed with it," Ancel said to the magazine.

As we've said, the first game wasn't a huge financial success and that might be one of the reasons Ubisoft hasn't approved the project yet. Still, great reviews and a small but hardcore community created around the game prove that a potential sequel might be even better than the first as long as it remains true to the original.

And it seems that it will - the game is under development for the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles (no Wii, since they want to keep it "real") and Michel Ancel said that it would focus on the player's quest of dealing with the future of planet Hillys. No other details were given, so we're hoping for a full press release from Ubisoft in the near future.
