Just recently, during a live performance, Beyonce told fans gathered to see her sing that they should prepare for a new album in 2010. This, in turn, prompted speculation that she’s already hard at work on it (granted it doesn’t come out in late 2010). At the same time, an interview in the Guardian indicates the singer is thinking of going indie for the upcoming material.

As of now, no official comments regarding either of the two statements above have been made by camp Beyonce but, as they are and given that they come from the singer herself, it’s somewhat difficult – if not altogether impossible – to dismiss them as mere rumors. Beyonce would be very tempted to do something else for her next album, whether it drops next year or the year after that, and that also includes going indie, she says.

Her sister, Solange, and the way she handles her career seem to have influenced Beyonce. Solange, as fans must know, is not tied to any record label right now, having just left Interscope to pursue her own interests and make music like she sees fit and not as she’s being asked to, as we also informed you a while ago. Beyonce is tempted to go down the same path; or, at least, so it would seem judging by her answer to the question of whether there is anyone left she’d like to record music with.

“Oh, where do I begin? There’s so many people I’d like to work with still, but I’d like to maybe go outside of the box. My sister [Solange] has put me on to bands like [indie group] Of Montreal and some other different types of artists. I would love to do something like that on my next album,” Beyonce says. Of course, if that were to happen, it could only mean that Beyonce would get to put her amazing vocals to the use she would see fit without any creative restrictions whatsoever, some fans point out.

Clearly, Beyonce going indie would be a step forward in her development as an artist. However, until an official announcement on this is made, it remains in the realm of wishful thinking, for Beyonce and the fans alike.
